There are tons of great places to go canoe camping in Florida, from the dark waters of the Suwannee to the mangrove islands of the Everglades.
Just like regular camping, the cooler months make for a more enjoyable experience, due to better weather and lack of bugs.
If you choose to rent a canoe, rates are around $25 a day which includes shuttle back to where you parked your car.
What you’ll need
– Contact an outfitter
– Pack just the basics (think backpacking)
– Put everything in dry bags and rope together
– Leave a travel plan with someone not going on the trip
Yield 6 Servings Ingredients
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
1/4 cup minced onion
2 cups frozen baby lima beans, thawed (or green peas)
2 cups fresh Florida sweet corn,
6 ounces smoked sausage, thinly sliced into rounds (any kind of smoked sausage)
2 cups chopped seeded fresh Florida tomatoes (about 3)
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
2 dashes of your favorites hot sauce
Melt butter in heavy large skillet over medium heat. Add onion; sauté until soft, about 5 minutes. Add lima beans, corn, and sausage; season with salt and pepper. Sauté until vegetables are cooked through, about 8 minutes. Add tomatoes and cook 3 minutes longer. Mix in parsley, hot sauce, and lemon juice. Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve.
Any time of the year is a good time to go sailing.
Most any body of water can be sailed upon, it just depends on your boat. Many sailing classes are available in local lakes, which many try before getting out on the big water.
Sailing lessons vary price-wise depending on location and the type of boat you are learning on. The Rudder Club, who we sailed with offers a basic sailing class for $250, which includes 4 days of instruction.
What you’ll need
– Water & wind
– Find a sailing school and take lessons or ask an experienced sailor to show you the lines.
